Two-day residential training programme for the mentors of BIS Standards Clubs at Vijayawada on 19th and 20th February 2024

Dear Sir/Madam,
Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is a statutory organization functioning under the BIS Act 2016 and the
aegis of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, is the National Standard Body of India
established under the BIS Act 2016 for the harmonious development of the activities of standardization,
marking and quality certification (1SI Mark) of goods, management system certification and for matters
connected therewith or incidental thereto. BIS has been providing traceability and tangibility benefits to the
national economy in number of ways - providing safe reliable quality goods; minimizing health hazards to
consumers; promoting exports and imports substitute; controlling over proliferation of varieties etc. through
hallmarking, standardization, certification, and testing.
Standards Clubs have been conceptualized with the aim of creating awareness about the significance of
standards among young minds. It is imperative that the Mentors themselves understand the concepts behind
standards and their role in the quality ecosystem.
Objectives for conducting the Training programme for Mentors of Standards Clubs are as given below:
a) To enable the mentors to fully understand the Operation of Standards Clubs and their own Roles &
Responsibilities.
b) To nudge the student members to apply the knowledge of science in the concepts of quality and
standardization and attempt to make standards that truly reflect the needs of the consumers, technological
levels of the industry and meeting the governmental/regulatory requirements.
c) To develop an understanding of principles of quality and standardization and the structures of different
types of standards.
d) To familiarise the Mentors with the Activities of BIS and its role in the national quality ecosystem and to the
various features of BIS websites and Portals.






e) To comprehend the various quality characteristics of products and services and to write standards
prescribing requirements and methods of tests.
As per letter Lr.Rc.No. 58/A&I/2022-2 dated 02.10.2022 from Commissioner, School Education, Andhra
Pradesh (Copy Enclosed), BIS has created Standards Clubs in the schools recently & organizing 2-Day
Residential Training Programme to the mentors (Annexure enclosed) of Standards Clubs of Andhra Pradesh at
Vijayawada on 19 Feb and 20h Feb 2024.
