Project Proposals called for Establishing School Herbal Gardens Under Central Sector Scheme for conservation, Development and Sustainable management of Medicinal Plants

All the Additional Project Coordinators, Samagra Shiksha, in the
State are invited to the reference cited where in the Chief Executive
Ofcer (FAC), A.P. Medicinal & Aromatic Plants Board, Vijayawada,
informed that the National Medicinal Plants Board has introduced a
scheme to encourage School Herbal Gardens. The schools are responsible
for maintaining Herbal Gardens by active participation of the students and
parent-teacher associations / NGOs and also make special arrangements
during school vacation period. Students will be involved in labeling the
plants, watering, weeding etc., so as to enhance the knowledge of the
students about the benefts and uses of the diferent species nurtured by
them.


Further it is also informed that, The National Medicinal Plants Board
will provide Financial Assistance @ Rs.25,000/- per school with 500 sq.m.
area for school herbal garden, frst year for establishment and up to
Rs.7,000/- per annum per school as maintenance cost for the next four
years. In case, the schools are proposing area for the School Herbal
Garden, which is more or lesser than 500 sq.m., assistance can be
considered on priority basis.
