Samagra Shiksha, AP- SALT- World Bank-Aided Project – Environmental and Social Systems Assessment (ESSA) and Social Audit – Implementation of Action Plan and Standard Operating Procedures (SoP) for addressing School-Related Gender-B
As part of the Supporting Andhra’s Learning Transformation (SALT) project, supported by the World Bank, the Environmental and Social Systems Assessment (ESSA) and Social Audit parameters have identified School-Related Gender-Based Violence (SRGBV) as a critical area of concern. SRGBV includes physical, sexual, and psychological violence that occurs in and around educational institutions, driven by gender inequality, discrimination, and harmful social norms. The consequences of SRGBV can lead to increased dropout rates, poor academic outcomes, and long-term emotional trauma. Moving forward, key priorities include continuous capacity-building for teachers, Child Protection Committees (CPC), and involvement of community members, strengthening monitoring mechanisms for SRGBV cases and enhancing hygiene and safety infrastructure. Additionally, there is a need to scale up awareness proper grievance redressal mechanisms, both at school and community levels. Further, SRGBV encompasses physical, sexual, and psychological violence occurring in and around schools, often stemming from gender inequality and harmful social norms. The consequences of SRGBV include increased school dropout rates, poor academic performance, and long-term emotional trauma and child marriages. Further as per the Social Audit report of 2025 under the SALT programme the schools have performed relatively low on equity indicators and have low sensitization about the SRGBV
